About the studio

A yoga studio in south Tempe, open to everyone

Protea Movement Studio offers yoga, barre, pilates, mobility and restorative classes in small groups, taught by certified instructors.

Celeste McCarthy, who has practiced yoga for more than twenty years, opened the studio in 2024 as part of the Protea Life campus in Tempe. It is a place to build strength and mobility at your own pace, whether you are new to yoga or have practiced for years.

Open to the community, close to medical care

You don't need a referral or a medical membership to take a class; the studio runs on its own within the Protea Life campus. If you are also a patient, or are thinking about becoming one, naturopathic and regenerative care is available in the same building at the Medical Center and Performance Center.

  • Open to the community, no referral needed
  • Small classes for every level
  • Heated room classes
  • Medical and regenerative care in the same building

Classes and instruction

What is a class at Protea like?

Classes are small and every level is welcome. Here is what to expect from the instruction, the class mix and the studio community.

Class size

Small classes with personal attention

Classes are kept small so instructors can give each student attention and offer modifications. Whether you come for gentle yoga, breath-centered movement or barre, you can start at your current level and build from there.

  • Heated room sessions
  • Small class sizes
  • All levels welcome, from beginners to advanced

Instruction

Certified instructors on a medical campus

Each of our instructors holds a 200- or 500-hour yoga teacher certification. Because the studio shares a building with Protea’s physicians, many classes are planned with recovery and accessibility in mind and can complement the care patients receive next door.

  • Instructors trained in therapeutic movement
  • Classes designed to complement medical care
  • Focus on longevity, recovery and accessibility

Restorative classes

Sound baths and yoga nidra for rest

The schedule also includes quieter classes. Sound baths use crystal bowls and gongs, and yoga nidra is a guided meditation. Many students pair these with more active classes to balance their week.

  • Crystal bowl sound baths
  • Yoga nidra guided meditation
  • Time set aside for rest and stress relief

Community

A studio you can return to every week

The studio is meant to be a regular part of your week. Classes are welcoming at every level, students come to know one another, and the studio hosts community events and workshops. Over time, a consistent practice can support strength, mobility and a clearer head.

  • Welcoming, judgment-free environment
  • Familiar faces in every class
  • Community events and workshops
