Choosing a hormone provider
What should you ask any hormone therapy provider?
Hormone therapy is offered by online services and local practices alike, and convenience is a fair consideration. Whichever you choose, these questions help you understand how your care will be managed. Here is how Protea answers them.
| Question to ask | Why it matters | At Protea Medical Center |
|---|---|---|
| Who evaluates me before treatment? | Symptoms like fatigue or poor sleep can have more than one cause, so your history helps put results in context. | A naturopathic physician, in an extended first appointment covering your history, symptoms, lifestyle and goals. |
| What testing is done first? | Baseline results give you and your clinician something to compare against later. | Hormone therapy at Protea is prescribed with baseline lab testing. Your physician explains which tests are recommended and why. |
| How is the dose chosen? | People can respond differently to the same hormone and dose. | Your physician chooses the hormone, route and dose based on your results, symptoms and history. |
| Where does the medication come from? | It's reasonable to know where your prescription is filled and how it is prepared. | Your physician can tell you where your prescription is filled and how it is prepared. |
| What happens after I start? | Needs can change over time, and follow-up shows how you are responding. | Follow-up visits and repeat labs on a schedule your physician sets, with adjustments when needed. |
